18 Princess Chulabhorn Science High Schools

Twelve Princess Chulabhorn Science High Schools (PCSHSs) were established in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn to commemorate her 36th birthday in 1993. Prof. Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn is the youngest daughter of His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand.

She has been an instructor of Chemistry at Mahidol University since 1985 and a member of the President’s Council of the University of Tokyo.

Being Thailand’s leading Super Science High Schools, only students with outstanding academic achievements in Mathematics and Science are selected to study at PCSHSs. Not only do they utilize specialized and intensive curricula in mathematics and science emphasizing research activities, but they have also developed academic cooperation with eighteen Super Science High Schools (SSHs) and eleven National Institutes of Technology (KOSEN) in Japan. The cooperation has included online communication and student/teacher exchange, which leads to collaborative research.

In 2021, Thailand’s Cabinet endorsed the Ministry of Education’s plan, led by the Office of the Basic Education Commission, to expand equal educational opportunities for students excelling in mathematics and science. This initiative aims to boost Thailand’s competitiveness by nurturing talented individuals in these fields and improving education standards in regional schools. As part of this effort, establishing six additional Princess Chulabhorn Science High Schools was deemed appropriate.
The TJ-SIF 2024 will significantly advance collaborative teaching and learning, fostering closer and more robust bilateral cooperation in gifted education in science and technology between the two nations.

Super Science High Schools

“Super Science High Schools (SSH)” is a project launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan in 2002 to support senior high schools that prioritize science, technology, and mathematics as part of its “Science Literacy Enhancement Initiatives.”

Schools awarded this designation receive increased funding and are encouraged to develop links with universities and other academic institutions. SSH schools focus on developing educational methods to foster talents who can actively contribute to the science and technology field worldwide.

The main activities of SSH are academic studies in high school and meetings where students present their findings to other high school students, teachers, and professors. Other activities include fieldwork, visits to laboratories or museums, and correlations with high schools in other countries.

(Registeration for Field Trip on 1 November 2024 - 20 November 2024)

Talay Ban National Park

Talay Ban National Park, located in Ban Wang Prachan, spans 196 sq. km (122,000 rai) and includes Kupang, Pulot, and Hua Kaming National Forests, along with Pa Khuan and Pu Yu ponds in Ban Khuan Subdistrict and Pu Yu Subdistrict, Mueang District, Satun Province, approximately 40 km from Satun City. The name “Talay Ban” derives from the Malay term “Lead Reban,” indicating a collapsed or formed sea due to land collapse. It was shaped by land collapse between Khao Chin and Khao Mod Daeng, forming a vast swamp covering around 63,350 rai, mostly complex mountains rich in vegetation. The park boasts diverse flora, including the picturesque Bakong trees, and fauna like water birds, tapirs, and the unique “water dog” amphibian. Established as a national park on October 27, 1980, it offers visitors a unique ecosystem and wildlife to discover.

Mangrove Forest Resource Conservation Center No. 24 (Tammalang, Satun)

Tourist attractions near Satun city, located in the area of Tammalang Pier, Satun Province, offer a unique blend of natural beauty: a mangrove forest and a pier connecting to the Malaysian side (Langkawi). The mangrove forest is exceptionally fertile, featuring a 1.4-kilometer trail for exploring its diverse ecosystem. Most species here are mangrove plants, with the highlight being the rare sight of a herd of southern langurs. Dozens of spectacled langurs can be observed up close, providing a memorable wildlife experience amidst breathtaking scenery. Additionally, visitors can find a large crab statue, serving as a picturesque photo spot.

Mu Ko Phetra National Park

“Mu Ko Phetra National Park is located on a fault plane to the south of the small isolated Khao To Ngai Mountain, about 7 kilometers from La-ngu District. It can be seen on a cliff at the seafront, accessible by a walking bridge from the National Park Office. This fault plane site is an important geological structure of the Satun Geopark.

Cambrian red sandstone (Tarutao Group) is overlain by Ordovician limestone (Thung Song Group), forming a normal fault contact boundary between the two rock groups with different ages. This boundary is located on a high cliff overlooking the sea, with the horizon stretching far away. A walking bridge built by Mu Ko Phetra National Park encircles the mountain along the seafront and is named the “Time Travel Zone.”

The Satun Geopark, together with Mu Ko Phetra National Park and Satun Province, has launched a concept of a group wedding ceremony at this time-bounded location. This initiative aims to create a narrative for local people to learn about the geological site while stimulating the tourism industry. Consequently, the site has become a tourist spot that embraces the tradition of group weddings.”

The 3rd Thailand-Japan Educational Leaders Symposium: Artificial Intelligence in Education

Educational leaders play a significant role in setting direction, creating a positive school culture, motivating staff, and enhancing students’ academic achievement. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has required educational leaders to navigate times of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) and BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, and Incomprehensible).

Society faces challenges in this disruptive era of rapid technological change. Despite these challenges and concerns, it is important to note the benefits of technology in education. The effective use of digital learning tools in classrooms can increase student engagement, help teachers improve their lesson plans, and facilitate personalized learning. It also assists students in building essential 21st-century skills. Such changes require educational leaders with leadership and educational management capabilities, which will be essential for driving the education system at national and international levels.

The Office of Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education Thailand, and Thaksin University are hosting an academic virtual conference titled “The 3rd Thailand-Japan Educational Leaders Symposium: Artificial Intelligence in Education (TJ-ELS 2024)” on 21 December 2024. This conference will serve as a platform for school leaders, teachers, educators, and participants from Thailand and Japan to exchange academic ideas on Artificial Intelligence in Education in challenging times. The conference will call for abstracts for oral and poster presentations in the research symposium.
